Part 3: Your Hair Was Pushed Too Far, Now What? (At-Home Care)

Part three of the Olaplex Recovery Guide is all about what you can do at home to rebuild and maintain your hair. Say you’ve had your first in-salon Olaplex treatment or service then have weeks to months between your next appointment– what can be done in that time to ensure your hair stays healthy?

Most people don’t realize most of the damage their hair incurs is actually done away from the salon. This can be done with something as little as being out in the sunshine all day to something bigger like daily thermal styling. This is a topic we’ve covered a great deal on our blog as maintenance is such a huge part of the Olaplex system.

The best thing you can do to your hair whether it’s in need of recovery or maintenance is use Olaplex No.3 at home once weekly or more. You may even hear a stylist say you need to use No.3 consistently before they do any chemical services on your hair.

In any case, if your hair is healthy and you’re looking to keep it that way, treat it with No.3 once a week. If you’re hair is compromised and you’re on the road to recovery, use Olaplex No.3 1-3 a week or as needed. Olaplex is completely non-toxic, so there’s no harm in over-using it.

These step-by-step directions will help you get started:

Step 1: Apply a generous amount to clean towel-dried hair and comb through.

Step 2: Leave on for a minimum of 10 minutes. Keep in mind, the longer it’s on, the more effective it is, especially for hair that is compromised. We’ve seen great results from people who leave it on 30 to 90 minutes!

Step 3: Rinse, shampoo, condition, then style as you normally would.

You can use Olaplex No.3 without having used No.1 and No.2 prior, but it certainly helps if you do. Olaplex works best as a three step system, so be sure to check part 1 and 2 of the Olaplex Recovery Guide to get your hair in the best shape possible!
