Platinum hair and healthy hair haven’t always been synonymous. Okay, maybe never. That is, until Olaplex. But how do you do it? Is it for everyone?
We have seen black hair transform to platinum in one day and even compromised hair double processed into platinum looking healthier than ever before all with the help of Olaplex. Platinum is right for anyone with the desire for change, no matter what your hair type is! Now, we’re not saying you’re good to march to your colorist and magically go platinum in one session. Olaplex is a revolutionary tool for hairdressers and your hair, but good judgement still needs to be used. The history of your hair has a lot to do with how far your hair can be pushed. Here’s a little guide on how to get started on the path to platinum.
THE CONSULTATION
Set an appointment for a consultation with a trusted Olaplex stylist before the big day. You can search for a salon near you using our salon locator, here. Make sure you’re both on the same page with your goals and have an equal understanding on what it’s going to take to get you there. The most important factors are receiving opinions from trusted hair colorists on what the change means for your hair in particular, which has everything to do with it’s history. You may be able to make the change in a day, or your colorist may use their best judgement and decide two or more sessions are better for you.

OLAPLEX STAND ALONE TREATMENT & OLAPLEX NO.3
Book an Olaplex Stand Alone Treatment the same day of your consultation or for your second appointment for an intensive strengthening treatment. This is done in salon with Olaplex No.1 and 2 to rebuild your hair internally by linking broken disulfide bonds in the hair. You break these bonds everyday whether it be from the environment, or thermal and mechanical styling, so be sure your hair gets a nice head start before you go platinum. Also ensure your stylist sends you home with Olaplex No.3 or purchase it on olaplex.com.
Olaplex No.3 is a treatment for you to use at home to rebuild your hair in between salon visits. Remember the ways we mentioned you break bonds every day? Use this at least once a week to help get your hair in tip top shape before your lightening appointment. If your hair is compromised, use it up to 3x a week for maximum results. Don’t worry, we have an easy-to-follow guide on how to use No.3 here.
Remember, your hair is going through a big change and needs extra love to stay healthy. No.3 will be your best friend after your service. Keep it by your side and use it in addition to your favorite conditioning and/or protein treatments.
THE SERVICE
No matter what timing you and your colorist decide is right for you, using Olaplex in the service is not optional! By using No.1 in the lightener, Olaplex will help mitigate the damage normally done by the chemicals. Imagine Olaplex in a boxing match with bleach that’s trying to break the bonds in your hair. Olaplex is knocking bleach out while simultaneously rebuilding your hair. Without Olaplex in the lightener, those bonds are breaking, compromising your hair even further. Using No.2 after the lightening service ensures all other bonds get the same amount of love, without any chemicals fighting against it.
GOING, GOING, BLONDE!
Like we mentioned above, maintenance is key prior to, during, and after your service.
